The following is an excerpt from a family history written by May E. Anderson.

Raymond Anderson
May, 1946
Raymond was born at home, 1307 W. Jackson Avenue, Spokane, Washington, in a small white house that was still at that location in 1990. (See his baby book, pictures, and hair in cedar chest.) His grandparents, Jens and Anna Olsen, lived at Mica Peak while Raymond was small. From the home on Jackson the family moved to N. 5616 Post.

Raymond attended the old Madison School north of Franklin Park. I don’t know how many years he attended there, probably through 6th grade. He then attended 7th and 8th grades at Willard School on North Wall where he graduated on June 13, 1923. He attended North Central but did not graduate from high school.

I don’t know when his parents, with Raymond and his brother Chuck, moved to W. 1208 Providence. Raymond might have been attending North Central High School at that time.

Ray and May Anderson
July, 1962
Work was very hard to find after Raymond left school, as it was during the Depression. He finally found steady employment at Steward’s Hardware & Lumber Company on the northwest corner of Garland and Monroe where he clerked, filled orders and delivered building materials. He was working there when we were married on August 18, 1938, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. We built our first home on North Atlantic in the 4200 block above Garland Park while he was making $20 a week at Steward’s. He worked with Mr. Steward and his son until two years following the death of Mr. Steward when the place was sold. In 1943 he went to work for Northern Pacific Railroad out at Park Water on Trent where they maintained large engines. When the shop was sold to an out of town company, he did not want to move and quit the railroad in 1954. He then went to work for Boise Cascade Lumber Company on Buckeye east of Division. I don’t remember how many years he worked there, but he stayed with them until his health began to fail and the work was too much for him. He was out of work for just a short time until he found employment as a custodian at Ferris High School. He worked at Ferris from 1967 to 1970.

Exact date unknown.
He passed away at home on June 26, 1971, at 5:40 a.m. of heart failure.

His dad, Cranston, was born on March 9, 1883. His mother, Hannah, was born January 24, 1885. Charles was born September 13, 1911. Raymond was almost 14 years old when Walter was born July 3, 1923. By then, the family was living on Providence. Donella was born March 27, 1926, and Phyllis was born June 11, 1928.

Walt and Donella graduated from North Central High School. Phyllis didn’t graduate.
